Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Titans fall at home

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Junior guard Drew Weir (Salem, Ohio, Salem) scored 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting for the Westminster College men's basketball program was dealt an 88-79 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss by visiting Washington & Jefferson College Saturday afternoon at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.

W&J ran its season record to 13-5 overall and improved to 9-4 in the league. Westminster fell to 4-13 overall and 1-11 in PAC action.

Weir's 24 points led three Westminster players in double figures. It was his fourth 20-point game this season. Sophomore guard Brady DePietro (Boardman, Ohio, Boardman) finished with 13 points and six rebounds while freshman guard Trevor Siefke (Lisbon, Ohio, David Anderson) chipped in with 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting in 18 reserve minutes. Freshman guard Jibri Carter Jr. (Youngstown, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) added nine points, four assists and a pair of rebounds. Junior guard Jaxon Hendershott (Salem, Ohio, West Branch) had eight points and, despite scoring just two points, junior guard Mick Hergenrother (Canfield, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) totaled nine rebounds and seven assists.

Matt Seidl led W&J with 22 points. Cameron Rowell finished with 17 while Michael Plasko added 16. Nathan Plotner had 12 rebounds. The Presidents shot 50.0 percent (31-62) from the field and hit eight of their 23 (.348) attempted three-pointers. W&J was a combined 18-of-30 (.600) from the free throw line.

W&J's 10-0 scoring run, capped by a Seidl three-pointer, midway through the first half erased Westminster's 24-22 lead. Freshman forward Michael Burbach's (West Farmington, Ohio, Bristol) layup with just over two minutes left cut the deficit to two, 37-35. Neither team scored over the final two-plus minutes of the half.

W&J grabbed control of the second early, using a 12-0 run to start the half to go up 14, 49-35, with just under 18 minutes remaining. The second half margin ballooned to as many 16 (61-45) before a Hendershott three-pointer pulled the Titans to within nine, 74-65, with just over six minutes to play. DePietro's three-pointer with 1:17 left in regulation cut the W&J lead to seven, 84-77, and Weir's two-handed dunk on a break trimmed the lead down to five, 84-79, with just over a minute to go. Weir's missed three-pointer with 36 seconds left led to a Seidl layup that closed the scoring.

Westminster shot 46.9 percent (30-64) from the floor but went just 15-of-24 (.625) from the charity stripe.
