Westminster edged at Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa.--The Westminster College men's basketball program was dealt a 65-62 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss at Grove College Wednesday night. 

 Grove City improved its record to 13-4 overall and 10-2 in the PAC. Westminster's overall record fell to 4-12 overall and 1-10 in the league. Wednesday was the Titans' fifth loss this season by three points or less. 

Junior guard Drew Weir (Salem, Ohio, Salem) finished with 18 points and six rebounds. He was 7-of-13 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Freshman guard Trevor Siefke (Lisbon, Ohio, David Anderson) scored a career-high 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting. He added four rebounds and a pair of steals. Mike Christenson led Grove City with a career-high 35 points on 10-of-18 shooting, including a 6-of-8 night from three-point field goal range. Division III's No. 2 free throw shooter, Christenson went 9-of-10 from the line Wednesday. 

Weir knocked down a jumper with under a minute left in the first half to tie the game at 28. Christenson's three-pointer with 31 seconds to go, followed by a Kyle Randle layup with two seconds remaining, upped Grove City's lead to five, 33-28, heading into halftime. 

Junior guard Mick Hergenrother (Canfield, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) connected on a pair of free throws with just over two minutes remaining in regulation to give Westminster a one-point lead, 56-55, before Christenson scored five-straight points to push Grove City back in front by four, 60-56. Christenson scored Grove City's final 13 points, which included a 5-of-6 effort from the free throw line down the stretch. Junior guard Jaxon Hendershott (Salem, Ohio, West Branch) hit second three-pointer of the game with five seconds left to cut the lead to three, 62-59, before Christenson converted on three of his final four free throw attempts to locked up the three-point win. 

Grove City went 13-of-17 (.765) from the charity stripe, while Westminster went 11-of-19 (.579). Grove City finished with a 47-34 rebounding advantage, including a 14-7 edge on the offensive glass. Westminster scored more points off turnovers (16-13) and had more points in the paint (30-22), fast break points (13-7) and bench points (26-10).
