Westminster falls in three at Carnegie Mellon

PITTSBURGH--The Westminster College women's volleyball program suffered a 3-0 loss at Carnegie Mellon University Friday evening in the Tartans' first-ever competition in the new Highmark Center for Health, Wellness and Athletics. 

Carnegie Mellon evened its record at 2-2 while Westminster fell to 4-1 this season. The Tartans won by set scores of 25-21, 26-24 and 25-15. 

Senior right side Ava Ferringer (Venus, Pa., Cranberry) led Westminster with 10 kills and hit .320 on 25 attempts. Sophomore outside hitter Liv Trent (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood) added nine kills, eight digs and a pair of blocks. Junior setter Angie Nardone (Ellwood City, Pa., Lincoln) finished with 18 assists and seven digs.  

Laura Reichard led the Tartans with 15 kills and hit .400 on 30 attempts. She added 14 digs and had three service aces. Julianna McFarland had 12 kills and hit .526 on 19 attacks. 

Carnegie Mellon combined to hit .209 in the three-set win. 

Saturday in Pittsburgh, Westminster will face Marietta College at 1 p.m. before taking on the University of Scranton at 3 p.m.
