Westminster tied for 3rd after first day of Mountain Valley Collegiate Classic

ALTOONA, Pa.--The Westminster College men's golf program is sitting in a three-way tie for third place after the opening round of the Mountain Valley Collegiate Classic Friday.

The 20-team, two-day event is being hosted by Penn State Altoona and Mount Aloysius College. Friday's round was played at Sinking Valley Country Club. Heidelberg University tops the team leaderboard with a 303 while Farmingdale State College is currently in second place with a 304. Westminster, Penn State Altoona and Penn College are tied for third with a 307. 

Senior Joseph Trudeau (Ann Arbor, Mich., Skyline) is tied with Mount Aloysius' Viktor Cussil for sixth with a two-over 74. Senior Portland Canovali (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) and graduate student Kai Haseyama (Encinitas, Calif., San Dieguito Academy), who is playing as an individual, are in a three-way tie for eighth with a three-over 75. Senior Gavin Batdorff (Berlin Center, Ohio, South Range) and sophomore Tyler Hager (Lehighton, Pa., Palmerton) each fired seven-over 79's to tie for 11th. Senior Peter Canovali (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) is one of six players tied for 54th place after carding an 81.

Saturday's round is scheduled to get underway at 9:30 a.m. at the Summit Country Club in Cresson.
