Westminster men finish 3rd at Kuhn Invitational

MEADVILLE, Pa.--The Westminster College men's golf program finished third at Allegheny College's Guy and Jeanne Kuhn Invitational Monday afternoon. The annual event is once again being hosted by the Country Club of Meadville.

Allegheny's "A" and "B" teams finished first and second, respectively, at the 11-team event. The "A" team registered a combined eight-under 568, following up Sunday's two-under 286 with a six-under 282 Monday. The Gators' "B" team finished with a 598 (302-296). Westminster finished in third place with a 599 between Sunday's 299 and Monday's 300.

Allegheny's Zachary Melzar earned medalist honors with a five-under 139. He shot an even-par 72 Sunday and fired a five-under 67 Monday.

Westminster graduate student Kai Haseyama (Encinitas, Calif., San Dieguito Academy) and senior Gavin Batdorff (Berlin Center, Ohio, South Range) finished the day in a five-way tie for fourth place with matching 147's. Haseyama shot an even-par 72 Monday after a 75 Sunday. Batdorff was three-over Sunday and even on Monday. Both Haseyama and Batdorff climbed five spots on the leaderboard Monday.

Senior Ellian Ascencio (Venetia, Pa., Peters Township) finished in a three-way tie for 16 with a 152 (74-78) and senior Joe Trudeau (Ann Arbor, Mich., Skyline) tied for 25th with a 157 (75-82). Sophomore Tyler Hager (Lehighton, Pa., Palmerton) tied for 33rd with a 162 (84-78).

Westminster is scheduled to compete at the Northeast Elite Saturday and Sunday. The event, hosted by Penn College, is being played at the Williamsport Country Club.
