Westminster scores sweeps over Fredonia State, Saint Vincent

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The women's volleyball program earned straight-set victories over Fredonia State University and Saint Vincent College Saturday afternoon at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium during the second day of the Westminster-Grove City Invitational.

Westminster improved to 11-5 with Saturday's wins and is now 7-3 in its last 10. The Titans defeated Fredonia State 25-12, 25-21 and 25-23 before taking down Saint Vincent 25-20, 25-17 and 25-21. 

Junior outside hitter Rachel Brady (Columbus, Pa., Corry) was one of eight players named to this weekend's All-Tournament Team. She totaled 40 kills, 63 digs and five blocks during the Titans' 3-1 run Friday and Saturday. 

Next Friday and Saturday, Westminster will travel to Ada, Ohio to participate in the 45th annual Ohio Northern Invitational. On Friday, the Titans are scheduled to face Ohio Northern at 5 p.m. and Heidelberg University at 7:30 p.m.

Junior middle hitter Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) paced the Titans with nine kills and hit .412. Brady had six kills and 16 digs while sophomore outside hitter Liv Trent (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood) added five kills, 10 digs and a career-high six service aces. Freshman setter Morgan O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa., Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) finished 14 assists and four digs. Freshman libero Brooke Gecina (Aurora, Ohio, Aurora) had 10 digs. 

Kylie O'Brien led Fredonia State with 11 kills and hit .241. Olivia Boswell and Molly Cassidy finished with 14 and 13 assists, respectively, while Kailea Sullivan totaled 15 digs. 

Tied 11-11 in the first set, Westminster strung together seven-straight points to go up 18-11. Trent had four of her six aces during the stretch. Rambo had six first set kills.

Brady finished with 10 kills and 11 digs against the Bearcats. It was her fifth match this season with double-digit kills. Trent had seven kills and 15 digs. O'Brien and sophomore Anna-Kate Davis (Boonsboro, Md., Boonsboro) both posted double-doubles, with O'Brien totaling 14 assists and 10 digs while Davis had 12 assists and 10 digs. Gecina finished with 16 digs. 

Vivian Poach registered seven kills, 11 assist and nine digs for Saint Vincent. Meegan Williams had seven kills and 10 digs while Madie Eagler added 11 assists and five digs. Stacie Ramos finished with 19 digs. 

Knotted at 11 in the first, Westminster rattled off four-straight points in the to go up 15-11. Brady had five kills and eight digs in the opening set.
