Westminster women drop 3-1 home decision to Ohio Wesleyan

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's soccer program suffered a 3-1 loss to Ohio Wesleyan University Friday night at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Ohio Wesleyan, ranked No. 7 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Region VII poll, improved to 6-1 with its third-straight win. Westminster fell to 1-5 with its fifth-straight defeat. 

Scoreless after 45 minutes, Paige Neal netted Ohio Wesleyan's first goal 15 minutes into the second half. At the 61st minute, Kaylee DeShong scored off an assist from Tiffany Trinh to push the lead to 2-0. Sophomore midfielder Jocelyn Gratchic (Connellsville, Pa., Connellsville) fired in an unassisted goal in the 62nd minute to cut Ohio Wesleyan's lead to 2-1. It was her first goal this season. Cami Womeldorf scored the final goal of the match with 19 minutes left.

Junior Morgan Murphy (Yardley, Pa., Villa Joseph Marie) started in net and finished with eight saves. Natalie Ryan had three saves and recorded the win for Ohio Wesleyan. 

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Westminster 19-6 with an 11-4 shots on goal advantage. Ohio Wesleyan had an 8-6 edge in corners. 

Westminster opens Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Wednesday, Sept. 25 when it travels to Waynesburg University. The match is scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m. at John F. Wiley Stadium.
