Titans finish 10th at The Gauntlet

LEWISBURG, Pa.--The Westminster College men's golf program finished in 10th place at The Gauntlet, presented by Premier College Tournaments and hosted by the Bucknell Golf Club, Monday afternoon. 

Gettysburg College won the 14-team, 75-player event with a team score of 568. The Bullets shot a 289 Sunday and fired a tournament-low 279 Monday. Penn State Altoona was the runner-up with a 576 (289-287) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) finished third with a 579 (291-288). Westminster closed out the two-day event team score of 602 (297-305). 

Dickinson College's Collin McMahon-Shea was the medalist after posting a 36-hole score of 135. He fired a five-under 65 before recording an even-par 70 Monday. RPI's Matt Buckley finished as the runner-up with a 137 (68-69). 

Graduate student Kai Haseyama (Encinitas, Calif., San Dieguito Academy) finished in a seven-way tie for 28th with a two-round score of 149 (73-76). Senior Joseph Trudeau (Ann Arbor, Mich., Skyline) bounced back from Sunday's 77 with a three-over 73 Monday to finish with a 150, finishing in a three-way tie for 35th. Senior Ellian Ascencio (Venetia, Pa., Peters Township) was one of three players to finish with a 151 (75-76), tying for 38th, and senior Gavin Batdorff (Berlin Center, Ohio, South Range) tied for 41st with a 152 (72-80). Senior Portland Canovali (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) rounded out Westminster's scoring, finishing 72nd with a 165 (85-80).

Westminster is back in action Tuesday at the Lee Hite Invitational. This year's match play event with Penn State Altoona is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m. at the Bedford Springs Old Course in Bedford. The annual event honors Mr. Hite's beneficence to both Westminster and Penn State Altoona. Westminster won the inaugural event 4.5-2.5 in 2021 and earned a 4-3 victory in 2022 before scoring a 5-2 win last fall.
