Westminster splits Saturday

Wins 3-1 over Houghton, falls in 3 to W&J

MEADVILLE, Pa.--The Westminster College women's volleyball program went 1-1 Saturday afternoon at the Allegheny College Invitational. The Titans claimed a 3-1 victory over Houghton University before falling to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Washington & Jeffson College in straight sets. 

Westminster is now 7-4 this season. Senior right side Ava Ferringer (Venus, Pa., Cranberry) was one of seven players named to the all-tournament team. She hit .323 this weekend, finishing with 37 kills. 

The Titans will open up their home schedule Tuesday, hosting Penn State Shenango at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.

Westminster 3, Houghton 1 (25-19, 25-17, 24-26, 25-13)
Junior outside hitter Rachel Brady (Columbus, Pa., Corry) tied her career high with 14 kills in the win over the Highlanders. She added nine digs and six assists. Ferringer hit .348 with nine kills and three digs while junior middle hitter Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) hit .421 with nine kills in 19 attacks. Junior setter Angie Nardone (Ellwood City, Pa., Lincoln) had a 21-assist, 11-dig double-double while sophomore setter Anna-Kate Davis (Boonsboro, Md., Boonsboro) had a season-best 20 assists while adding eight digs. Freshman libero Brooke Gecina (Aurora, Ohio, Aurora) had 18 digs.  

Lilly Bentley hit .519 and led Houghton with 14 kills. Logan Baer had 19 asissts and seven digs. Ainslie Reimer and Natalie Rivera added 12 and 11 digs, respectively.  

W&J 3, Westminster 0 (17-25, 23-25, 21-25)
Saturday's triumph over Westminster was the third straight for W&J. It was the Presidents' first three-game sweep of the Titans since Oct. 5, 2005 in Washington. Brady had 11 kills and hit .320 for Westminster. Ferringer finished with nine kills and hit .292 while Rambo had nine kills, hit .400 and had two blocks. Nardone racked up 19 assists and 11 dig for her second double-double of the day while Davis added 13 assists and five digs. 

Sophie Little hit .667 with 17 kills to lead W&J. Jaden Blough added 11 kills while Rian Benz finished with nine kills and 15 digs. Adrianna Sacramento had 24 assists and seven digs.
