Rambo leads Titans to wins over RIT, Pitt-Greensburg

LATROBE, Pa.--Junior middle hitter Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio) finished with a combined 26 kills and hit .548 Saturday to lead the Westminster College women's volleyball program to a pair of victories at Saint Vincent College's Bearcat Challenge. The Titans opened with a 3-1 win over Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) before winning in straight sets against Pitt-Greensburg. 

Rambo was also one of the seven players named all-tournament on Saturday afternoon. 

Westminster is 4-0 to start its season. The Titans are back in action Friday-Saturday, Sept. 6-7 at the Carnegie Mellon University Quad. The Titans will take on the host Tartans Friday at 5:30 p.m. before facing Marietta College (1 p.m.) and the University of Scranton (3 p.m.) on Saturday.

Rambo had 15 kills and hit .609 with six digs agaist RIT. Sophomore outside hitter Liv Trent (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood) added 11 kills, 18 digs, four assists and four service aces while junior outside hitter Rachel Brady (Columbus, Pa., Corry) finished with 10 kills and 16 digs. Junior setter Angie Nardone (Ellwood City, Pa., Lincoln) had 22 assists, seven digs and two service aces while sophomore setter Anna-Kate Davis (Boonsboro, Md., Boonsboro) added 15 assists, three digs a pair of service aces. Freshman libero Brooke Gecina (Aurora, Ohio, Aurora) finished with 16 digs. 

Samantha Cox and Cat Vento had 16 and 13 kills, respectively, for RIT. 

Westminster rolled to a 25-15 first set win and held on for a 27-25 win in the second. Trailing 24-19, the Tigers strung together six-straight points to go up 25-24. Back-to-back kills Rambo and Brady secured the two-point set win for the Titans. RIT secured a 29-27 third set win before Westminster's 25-20 match-securing fourth set victory.

The Titans hit .314 in the straight-set win while holding the Bobcats to just a .097 hitting percentage. Rambo totaled 11 kills and hit .474 while adding four blocks and four digs. Brady had nine kills and hit .375 with 13 digs. Davis finished with 15 assists and eight digs while freshman setter Morgan O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa., Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) chipped in with 11 assists, six digs and a pair of service aces.

Madison Friess led Pitt-Greensburg with nine kills and four digs.
