Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Horvath scores four times in season-opening win

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Senior midfielder Brooke Horvath (Murrysville, Pa., Franklin Regional) scored four first half goals for the Westminster College women's soccer program in Saturday afternoon's 5-1 season-opening win over Juniata College at the UPMC Sports Complex.

Mallory Bugel (2004-07), Westminster's last player to score four times in a single match, had four goals in a 6-0 win at Thiel College on Sept. 9, 2005.

Two of Horvath's goals were unassisted. Senior forward Allie Augustine (Cortland, Ohio, Lakeview) assisted Horvath's second and junior midfielder Ashley Horvath (Houston, Pa., Charters-Houston) assisted on her third. Senior defender Gabby Hunter (New Baltimore, Mich., Anchor Bay) scored Westminster's fifth goal with 15 minutes remaining. It was her first goal since netting the game-winner in a 1-0 win over visiting Washington & Jefferson College on Oct. 19, 2022.

Westminster had 23 players enter the match Saturday.

Juniata's Savanna Murray scored in the 20th minute to tie the match at 1-1.

Junior goalkeeper Morgan Murphy (Yardley, Pa., Villa Joseph Marie) started and made four saves in 59 minutes, 42 seconds. Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Codere (Shelton, Conn., Shelton) played the remaining 30:18 and had one save.

Westminster finished with a 13-10 edge in shots and a 10-6 advantage in shots on goal. Juniata attempted three corner kicks. Westminster had none.

Westminster will participate in Carnegie Mellon University's Tartan Cup Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 7-8. The Titans will face Denison University at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and host Carnegie Mellon at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Both matches will be played at the CMU Soccer Field in Pittsburgh.
