Titans settle for draw in season opener

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College men's soccer team salvaged a 1-1 draw against Juniata College in its season opener Saturday afternoon at the UPMC Sports Complex.

The two programs played to a scoreless draw to open the 2023 season in Huntingdon. 

Senior midfielder Brendan Callahan (Bensalem, Pa., Bensalem) scored the lone goal for Westminster four minutes into the match. Senior midfielder Mason Baldwin (Seven Fields, Pa., Seneca Valley) was credited with the assist. 

Jayden Gaynor scored for the Eagles a minute into the second half. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Aaron Snyder (Hatboro, Pa., Upper Moreland) and junior goalkeeper Noah Wolford (Butler, Pa., Butler) split time in net. Snyder got the start and had four first half saves. Wolford made a pair of saves in the second half. 

A total of 19 men appeared for Westminster Saturday. 

Juniata outshot Westminster 16-5 and had a 7-1 edge in shots on goal. The Eagles racked up six corner kicks to the Titans' one. Juniata was whistled for three yellow cards while Westminster was dealt a pair. Twenty-two fouls were called. 

Westminster will face Pitt-Greensburg Tuesday, Sept. 3 at the Ridilla Fields complex in Westmoreland County. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
