WASHINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College baseball team suffered an 8-4 elimination game loss to Grove City College in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament Friday night. Westminster began the day with a 5-4 come-from-behind win over Allegheny College.

The league's six-team, double-elimination championship is being held at Washington & Jefferson College's Ross Memorial Park in North Franklin Township, Pa. W&J is the tournament's No. 1 seed.

Westminster, the championship tournament's No. 5 seed, finishes the season 20-22. Grove City, the No. 2 seed, improved to 27-13. Grove City will face W&J, 3-0 in tournament action, Saturday in the championship round. The Presidents scored a 12-5 win over the Wolverines Friday afternoon in the final of the winner's bracket. W&J is seeking its fifth-straight conference title.

Game G: Westminster 5, Allegheny 4
Tied 2-all after seven innings, Allegheny's Ryan Dougherty blasted a two-out, two-run home run to left in the eighth. Trailing by two, fifth-year right fielder Carter Chinn (Grove City, Pa., Grove City) drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk before sophomore first baseman Josh Reed (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) responded in kind with a two-out, two-run single that lifted Westminster to a 5-4 lead. After giving up a leadoff single in the ninth, junior left-hander Jake Vitale (New Castle, Pa., Union) induced a 6-4-3 double play before retiring the final batter on a flyout to Chinn, earning his second save this year.

Freshman righty Jon Albers (Corry, Pa., Corry) threw five strong innings in the no-decision. He allowed two runs (1 earned) with two walks and two strikeouts. Senior left-hander Logan Exler (Pittsburgh, Pa., Serra Catholic) picked up the relief win, his third victory of the year. He yielded one run on a pair of hits in the eighth. Junior right-hander Dwight Parker (Youngstown, Ohio, Liberty) and sophomore righty Tyler Parsons (Hebron, Ky., Conner) threw scoreless sixth and seventh innings, respectively. Parker gave up a hit and a walk and struck out one in the sixth while Parsons allowed one hit and fanned a pair in the seventh.

Chinn had his second three-hit game of the spring in the win. He finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs, a walk and a stolen base. Senior designated hitter Jake Dockum (Fairport, N.Y., Allendale Columbia) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Junior shortstop Braeden Campbell (Glenshaw, Pa., Shaler) doubled down the right field line in the third. It was his ninth two-base hit this season.

Dougherty, Allegheny's leadoff hitter, went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored. Matt Jennings, the No. 2 hitter, was 3-for-5 with a double. Starter Dawson Thomas gave up two runs on six hits with three strikeouts in the no-decision. He worked 6.1 innings. John Doney took the loss in relief of Thomas, giving up three runs (0 earned) on two hits with a walk and a strikeout in 1.1 innings.

Game I: Grove City 8, Westminster 4
Westminster stung Grove City starter Evan Umland early with a pair of first inning runs on back-to-back RBI base hits by Dockum and Chinn. The Wolverines evened the game at 2-all with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before grabbing a 3-2 lead on Markus Williams' RBI single in the seventh. Junior left fielder Chris Davis (San Francisco, Calif., Stuart Hall) tied the game at 3-all in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out RBI base hit. Senior catcher Chase Tomko (Hermitage, Pa., West Middlesex) led off with single, advanced to second on a Shimko groundout, went to third on Campbell's groundout and scored on the Davis single.

Grove City broke things open with a five-run eighth. Nick Sampson's two-out, two-run single to right field highlighted the inning.

Senior center fielder Matthew Randza (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) was hit by a pitch to start the ninth. Tomko followed with a base hit and Campbell's RBI single to left scored Randza. With two outs, senior second baseman Logan Murgenovich (Aliquippa, Pa., Central Valley) ripped a single to center before Campbell was erased at third on Dockum's fielder's choice.

Reed got the start but did not factor into the decision. The lefty tossed four innings and allowed one run on six hits with a strikeout and two walks. Senior right-hander Trevor Leighty (Wooster, Ohio, Wooster) was saddled with the loss after giving up three runs on two hits with a strikeout in one-third of an inning. Junior righty Wyatt Walker (Venetia, Pa., Peters Township) worked a scoreless ninth, striking out a pair.
