NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's tennis team scored an 8-1 victory over Clarion University Tuesday afternoon.
Westminster improved to 11-7 overall. Clarion fell to 1-6.
Sophomore Christine Rossi (Jefferson Hills, Pa., Thomas Jefferson) and junior Gia Francisco (Canfield, Ohio, Canfield) improved to 12-4 this season with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles. Junior Ryleigh Valone (Erie, Pa., Villa Maria Academy) and sophomore Grace Askey (Dubois, Pa., Jeff Tech) earned an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Freshman Emma Overlingas (Pittsburgh, Pa., Baldwin) and junior Taylor Dlugozima (Volant, Pa., Wilmington) pushed their season record to 13-2 this season after they scored an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
Francisco won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Rossi claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles. Valone won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and Overlingas won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4 singles, pushing her record to 16-1 this season. Askey got the win at No. 5 singles with a score of 6-3, 7-5.
Westminster is set to host Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Franciscan University Saturday at 10 a.m.
