Westminster suffers road loss at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa.--The Westminster College women's lacrosse team suffered a 16-5 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) road loss to Allegheny College Saturday afternoon at the Robertson Blue Turf.

Allegheny improved to 3-6 overall and 2-1 in the PAC. Westminster fell to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Sophomore midfielder Emma Brazier (Northport, N.Y., Northport) paced Westminster with five goals and added one ground ball. She was 2-for-2 on free position shots. Senior midfielder Nina Rascona (Somerset, Pa., Somerset) totaled three assists. Senior midfielder Samantha Reed (Zionsville, Pa., Emmaus) had seven draw controls and three ground balls. 

Sophomore defender Isabella Cespedes (Merrick, N.Y., Sanford H. Calhoun) had three ground balls and two caused turnovers while sophomore defender Morgan Reidy (Pine City, N.Y., Elmira) had two ground balls. Freshman defender Emma Baldwin (Seven Fields, Pa., North Catholic) had two caused turnovers. Sophomore defenders Jaclyn Napier (Painesville, Ohio, Riverside) and Haley Wenzel (Coppell, Texas, Coppell), along with freshman attack Falyn Snyder (Bel Air, Md., Bel Air), each had a ground ball and a caused turnover. 

Freshman goalkeeper Amelia Mason (White Lake, Minn., Lakeland) recorded a career-high 12 saves and is now 1-1 this season.

Lauren Petrarca led Allegheny with four goals, one assist, two ground balls and three caused turnovers. Emily Herrold, Katherine Surdykowsk, and Ashley Amato each had three goals, two ground balls and one caused turnover.

Allegheny led 4-1 after one quarter and outscored Westminster 6-0 in the second to carry a 10-1 lead into halftime. Surdykowski scored the final two goals of the third and put the Gators up 14-3 going into the fourth. Brazier had two fourth quarter goals for the Titans. 

Allegheny finished with a 38-15 advantage in shots and had 28 shots on goal to Westminster's 10. The Titans had a season-high 23 turnovers

Westminster returns to action Tuesday at Saint Vincent College. The opening draw control from UPMC Field is set for 4 p.m.
