Westminster ends season with PAC quarterfinal loss

GROVE CITY, Pa.--The Westminster College women's lacrosse program suffered a 17-4 loss in the quarterfinal round of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament to No. 3 seeded Grove City College Tuesday afternoon at Don Lyle Field. 

Grove City, now 13-5, will advance to the Thursday's semifinals to take on No. 2 seeded Allegheny College. Westminster, the No. 6 seed, ended its season with an overall record of 5-11. 

Sophomore attack Haley Wenzel (Coppell, Texas, Coppell) finished with three goals and one assist. It was her sixth game this season scoring three or more goals. Senior midfielder Nina Rascona (Somerset, Pa., Somerset) finished with one goal, one assist, four ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers. She played and started in 52 career games, finishing as the program's all-time leader in assists (64). Rascona ranks second in career points (148) and third in career ground balls (110). 

Sophomore midfielder Emma Brazier (Northport, N.Y., Northport) had a goal, one ground ball and three draw controls. Her 70 goals are the second-most in a single season in program history. 

Freshman defender Emma Baldwin (Seven Fields, Pa., North Catholic) totaled four ground balls and two caused turnovers while sophomore defender Isabella Cespedes (Merrick, N.Y., Sanford H. Calhoun) finished with three ground balls and one caused turnover. Sophomore defender Morgan Reidy (Pine City, N.Y., Elmira) added two ground balls and one caused turnover. 

Grove City jumped out to a 5-0 lead the end of one quarter. Five-straight goals to begin the second pushed the Wolverines' ahead 10-0. Wenzel scored with over two minutes to go in the half before Rascona registered a woman-up goal with 20 seconds left in the second quarter. 

Grove City outscored Westminster 7-3 in the second half. 

Taylor Blythe finished with five goals and five assists for Grove City. Madison Nazigian added six goals and five draw controls. Sarah Jackson had five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. 

Grove City finished with a 33-11 advantage in shots and a 26-10 edge in shots on goal.
