Game Recap: Baseball |

Westminster loses twice at Chatham

MUNHALL, Pa.--The Westminster College baseball program suffered a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) setbacks Saturday night to Chatham University at West Field, falling 2-0 in game one and 7-5 in game two.

Westminster fell to 15-20 overall and 9-9 in league play. Chatham improved to 17-16 overall and 8-8 in the PAC.

Tuesday, Westminster hosts Mount Aloysius College in New Wilmington for a single, nine-inning matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Game 1: Chatham 2, Westminster 0
Chatham scored single runs in the second and third innings, respectively, on Westminster miscues. Eli Kelley led off the second with a triple and scored on a fielding error a batter later. In the third Benny Dottle led off the inning with a double, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a fielding error.

Senior second baseman Logan Murgenovich (Aliquippa, Pa., Central Valley) went 3-for-4. It was his third three-hit game this season. Murgenovich led off the fourth with a double and stole third base two batters later. He was the lone Westminster player to reach third in game one. The Titans stranded seven runners in the opener.

Senior right-hander Kolton Banfi (Harrisville, Pa., Franklin) was saddled with the game one loss, allowing two runs on nine hits with a walk and four strikeouts in the complete-game effort.

Carter Beneigh improved to 9-4 on the mound for Chatham with the complete-game shutout. He gave up six hits and walked a pair while fanning 11.

Game 2: Chatham 7, Westminster 5
Chatham sent nine men to plate in the third, with Peter Tadic's two-run double highlighting the Cougars' five-run frame. Westminster cut the deficit to a run with four runs in the sixth. Murgenovich got things going with a leadoff triple and later scored on a wild pitch. Junior left fielder Chris Davis (San Francisco, Calif., Stuart Hall) led off the seventh inning with a base hit to right and scored on senior catcher Chase Tomko's (Hermitage, Pa., West Middlesex) fielder's choice to tie the game. Back-to-back one-out RBI singles by Dottle and Tadic in the eighth secured the win for the Cougars.

Dawson Morrow recorded three strikeouts in the ninth to secure the win. He worked 2.1 innings of hitless relief, walking one and striking out six.

Junior righty Ryan Gibbons (Ellwood City, Pa., Lincoln) took the loss, giving up two runs on five hits with five strikeouts in four innings of relief work. Freshman right-hander Jon Albers (Corry, Pa., Corry) finished with a no-decision after allowing five runs on 11 hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 3.1 innings.

Murgenovich went 2-for-5 with a triple and a run scored. Freshman designated hitter Parker Lyons (Rochester, Pa., Rochester) went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored. Senior first baseman Jake Dockum (Fairport, N.Y., Allendale Columbia) was 1-for-3 with a pair of walks and a run scored. Davis' single in the seventh upped his current hitting streak to 15-straight games. Westminster left nine men on base in the nightcap.

Chatham's Angelo DeLeonardis went 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
