Exler throws six scoreless innings in Titans' win over Mount Aloysius

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Senior left-hander Logan Exler (Pittsburgh, Pa., Serra Catholic) helped the Westminster College baseball program wrap up a 2-1 non-conference victory over Mount Aloysius College Tuesday afternoon, allowing three hits while striking out four and walking none in six scoreless innings.

Westminster sits at 16-20 overall heading into its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) finale Saturday against Bethany College. Mount Aloysius fell to 21-16 overall.

Exler improved to 2-3 with the win, needing just 53 pitches to get through six innings. Tyler Quade smacked a two-out single in the first and had a leadoff bunt single in the fourth before Tyler Weber's leadoff single in the fifth.

Sophomore lefty Thomas Simon (Milan, Ohio, Edison) and junior right-hander Dwight Parker (Youngstown, Ohio, Liberty) threw scoreless seventh and eighth innings, respectively. After a leadoff single to Ryan Bushey, Brandon Cook tripled to left field off senior righty Trevor Leighty (Wooster, Ohio, Wooster) to cut the lead to 2-1. Leighty retired the next three batters in order to earn his first collegiate save.

Junior shortstop Braeden Campbell (Glenshaw, Pa., Shaler) went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored. Senior first baseman Jake Dockum (Fairport, N.Y., Allendale Columbia) went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base. In the first, Campbell scored on a throwing error before Dockum's double to left scored senior center fielder Matthew Randza (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk), who was hit by a pitch after Campbell walked to lead off the game.

Quade went 2-for-4 for Mount Aloysius. Alex Borges suffered the loss, allowing two runs (0 earned) on three hits with a strikeout and a pair of walks in three innings. Scott Ranallo threw five innings of scoreless relief. He gave up one hit and struck out three.

The first pitch of Saturday's PAC doubleheader with Bethany is scheduled for 1 p.m. Eight senior members of the baseball program will be recognized prior to the game.
