Westminster suffered PAC loss at home

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College men's lacrosse team was dealt a 20-7 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss to Grove City College Wednesday night at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Grove City, winners of nine-straight games, improved to 12-4 overall and 7-0 in PAC play. Westminster fell to 10-6 overall and 5-3 in the league. 

Junior midfielder Gavin Jones (Henrico, Va., Douglas S. Freeman) totaled two goals, three assists and four ground balls. Senior midfielder Jimmy Sentz (Catonsville, Md., Loyola Blakefield) and sophomore attack Brady Page (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) each finished with two points. Sentz had one goal, one assist and one ground ball while Page posted two goals. 

Junior defender David Evangelista (Pittsburgh, Pa., Chartiers Valley) had ground ball and two caused turnovers while sophomore short stick defensive midfielder Jahiem Hawkins (Huntington Station, N.Y., Huntington) finished with three ground balls. Senior faceoff Colin O'Malley (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) went 8-of-22 from the faceoff X with a pair of ground balls. Freshman goalkeeper Demetrio Perez (Coral Gables, Fla., Christopher Columbus) totaled 10 saves in 44 second half minutes. 

Grove City outscored Westminster 8-1 in the first period and 6-1 in the second to take a commanding 14-2 halftime lead. Westminster had a 4-3 scoring advantage in the third period, with Page scoring two and Jones and Sentz each scoring one. Grove City had a 3-1 scoring advantage in the fourth. 

Grove City outshot Westminster 49-36 and had a 34-19 advantage in shots on goal. Grove City went a perfect 21-for-21 on clear attempts while Westminster went 17-for-25.

Westminster hosts Wittenberg University Saturday to conclude its regular season. The opening faceoff from the UPMC Sports Complex is scheduled for 12 p.m.
