Richard's third round 75 thrusts Westminster women ahead of W&J

BOARDMAN, Ohio--Westminster College senior Sierra Richard (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk) fired a five-over 75 during the third round of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships Friday at the Mill Creek Golf Course.

The final two rounds of the 72-hole championship are being played on Mill Creek's North Course.

Richard was honored as the PAC's fall medalist after she finished a pair of championship rounds last October with a score of 159. Richard's three-round score of 234 gives her a five-stroke lead of Washington & Jefferson College's Megan Joyce, who sits in second place with a 239. Joyce shot a seven-over 77 Friday. 

Following its 319 on Friday, Westminster leapfrogged W&J on the team leaderboard. Westminster trailed W&J by eight strokes entering this spring's two championship rounds. Through three rounds, Westminster leads the eight-team field with a score of 1,000. W&J is second with a team score of 1,005. The Presidents shot a combined 332 Friday. Thiel College is third (1170). 

The fall's 36-hole event that was hosted by the Avalon Golf & Country Club in Warren, Ohio. The women played a pair of rounds at Avalon at Squaw Creek in Vienna.

Freshman Katie Rose Rankin (Sewickley, Pa., North Allegheny) is in fourth place with a three-round score of 251. She shot a third round 78. Senior Morgan Byers (Venetia, Pa., Peters Township) is in fifth place with a 255. Friday she shot an 84. Sophomore Alyssa Rapp (Poland, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) is tied for eighth with a 260. She carded an 82 Friday. Sophomore Olivia Kana (North Huntingdon, Pa., Greensburg Central Catholic) shot a 92 Friday to round out Westminster's five. 

Westminster is playing for its sixth-straight PAC title. 

Friday's first groups are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Westminster's five tee times begin at 11:20 a.m.
