Westminster men move into third at PAC Championships

BOARDMAN, Ohio--Westminster College junior Ellian Ascencio's (Venetia, Pa., Peters Township) seven-over 77 has him in a tie for eighth place after the third round of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships Friday at the Mill Creek Golf Course.

The final two rounds of the 72-hole championship are being played on Mill Creek's South Course.

Ascencio entered the spring's two championship rounds tied for ninth with a 153. Following Friday's 77 he is tied with Saint Vincent College's Brevin Urso with three-round scores of 230. Urso fired a two-over 72 Friday. Allegheny College's Carter Hassenplug leads the 45-player championship field with a three-round score of 217. Hassenplug shot a three-over 73 on Friday. 

Washington & Jefferson College, the 2022-23 PAC champion, leads the nine-team field with a three-round team score of 906. Allegheny, last year's runner-up, is six strokes back of W&J with a 912. Westminster sits in third place with a 935. The Titans entered the spring rounds trailing Grove City College by three strokes. The Wolverines shot a combined 323 Friday and are in fourth place (947).

Junior Gavin Batdorff (Berlin Center, Ohio, South Range) is tied for 12th place with a three-round score of 233. He fired a 73 Friday. Freshman Tyler Hager (Lehighton, Pa., Palmerton) is 17th with a 239. Friday he shot an 81. Junior Peter Canovali (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) carded an 80 on Friday and is currently 18th with a three-round score of 241. Junior Portland Canovali (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) shot a 78 Friday to round out Westminster's five.

Friday's first groups are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Westminster's five tee times begin at 11:30 a.m.
