Titans dealt PAC loss at Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa.--The Westminster College women's lacrosse program suffered a 14-8 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss to Thiel College Saturday afternoon at  Alumni Stadium at Stoeber Field. 

Thiel is now 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the PAC. Westminster fell to 3-8 overall and 2-3 in the league. 

Sophomore midfielder Emma Brazier (Northport, N.Y., Northport) paced Westminster with five goals. It was her seventh game this season scoring at least five goals. Brazier added three draw controls and a ground ball. Senior midfielder Nina Rascona (Somerset, Pa., Somerset) finished with two goals and three assists to go along with three ground balls, three caused turnovers and a pair of draw controls. Senior midfielder Samantha Reed (Zionsville, Pa., Emmaus) chipped in with a goal, an assist, six draw controls and two ground balls. 

Junior defender Shea O'Donnell (Hatfield, Pa., Lansdale Catholic) finished with a career-high five ground balls and a caused turnover while sophomore defender Isabella Cespedes (Merrick, N.Y., Sanford H. Calhoun) added two ground balls and three caused turnovers. Junior Jade Hromanik (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) made a career-high 22 saves to go along with five ground balls. 

Ashlyn Wightman led Thiel with eight goals, seven ground balls, a pair of caused turnovers and three draw controls. She was 4-of-5 on free position shots.

Westminster carried a 5-4 lead into the second quarter. After Brazier's goal with under three minutes to go cut Thiel's lead to 4-3, Rascona scored consecutive goals for the Titans. Wightman scored three of the Tomcats' four goals in the second, helping Thiel to an 8-6 halftime lead. Trailing 10-7, Brazier's woman-up goal 15 seconds into the fourth cut Thiel's lead to two before Wightman fired in three of the Tomcats' final four goals of the game. 

Thiel finished with a 47-25 advantage in shots and had 36 shots on goal to Westminster's 15. The Titans were charged with a season-high 34 turnovers, 21 of which were caused by the Tomcats, and went 0-for-4 on free position shots.

Westminster hosts Washington & Jefferson College Wednesday. The opening draw from the UPMC Sports Complex is scheduled for 5 p.m.
