Jones breaks all-time goals record, Waight eclipses 100 career goals

GREENVILLE, Pa.--The Westminster College men's lacrosse team cruised to a 23-4 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Thiel College Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium at Stoeber Field.

Westminster improved to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in the PAC. Thiel fell to 3-8 overall and 0-5 in the league. 

Senior attack Payton Waight (Ithaca, N.Y., Ithaca) eclipsed 100 career goals after scoring with just over four minutes left in the first period. He led Westminster with four goals, four assists, a ground ball and a caused turnover on Saturday. Waight now has 102 goals in 51 career games played. 

Junior midfielder Gavin Jones (Henrico, Va., Douglas S. Freeman) became the program's all-time career goal scorer with 111 goals in 45 games played. He scored the record-breaking goal with 51 seconds left in the game, passing Ryan Shorts (2016-2019) and his 110 career goals on the program's all-time list. Jones finished with five goals, two assists and five ground balls.

Senior midfielder Jimmy Sentz (Catonsville, Md., Loyola Blakefield) eclipsed 100 career points Saturday, finishing with four goals and three ground balls. He has 102 points on 62 goals and 40 assists in 48 career games. Junior midfielder Jonas Clark (Montgomery Village, Md., Watkins Mill) had three goals, four assists, five ground balls and a caused turnover. 

Senior faceoff Colin O'Malley (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) went 18-of-23 from the X and added 12 ground balls. Senior faceoff Dino Mario D'Alesio II (Youngstown, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) went 3-of-4 from the X and finished with one goal and two ground balls. Junior defender David Evangelista (Pittsburgh, Pa., Chartiers Valley) scored once and added four ground balls and one caused turnover. It was the first goal of his collegiate career. Senior defender Aaron Alderette (Bethel Park, Pa., Bethel Park) had four ground balls and one caused turnover. Junior defender Geoffrey Worsey (Frederick, Md., Tuscarora) had a ground ball and three caused turnovers. 

Freshman goalkeeper Mason Kiebala (Williamsville, N.Y., Williamsville) earned the first start of his career and secured the win, totaling two saves in 45 minutes. Senior goalkeeper Bradley Green (Landisville, Pa., Hempfield) made four saves. 

Westminster hosts Washington & Jefferson College Wednesday. The opening faceoff from the UPMC Sports Complex is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
