Westminster falls at Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa.--The Westminster College men's lacrosse team suffered a 15-5 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss to Saint Vincent College Wednesday afternoon at UPMC Field.

Saint Vincent imrpoved to 3-7 overall and 1-1 in the PAC. Westminster is 7-4 overall and 2-1 in league play.

Junior midfielder Gavin Jones (Henrico, Va., Douglas S. Freeman) finished with two goals, four ground balls and two caused turnovers while senior midfielder Jimmy Sentz (Catonsville, Md., Loyola Blakefield) had a goal and an assist with one ground ball. Senior midfielder Kellen Frazer (Eugene, Ore., Oak Hill) and junior midfielder Jonas Clark (Montgomery Village, Md., Watkins Mill) each had one goal and Frazer added two ground balls and a caused turnover. Sophomore attack Kyler Nigliazzo (Montgomery, Texas, Magnolia West) had one assist and two ground balls. 

Senior faceoff Colin O'Malley (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) was 13-of-19 at the X and added eight ground balls. Senior faceoff Dino Mario D'Alesio II (Youngstown, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) went 1-of-4 at the X and had one ground ball and one caused turnover. Sophomore short-stick defensive midfielder Jahiem Hawkins (Huntington Station, N.Y., Huntington) had four ground balls and a caused turnover. Senior defender Aaron Alderette (Bethel Park, Pa., Bethel Park) finished with three ground balls and sophomore short-stick defensive midfielder Asher Silberling (Redondo Beach, Calif., Redondo Union) had one ground ball and three caused turnovers.

Senior goalkeeper Bradley Green (Landisville, Pa., Hempfield) totaled eight first half saves. Sophomore goalkeeper Brendan Siwik (Aldie, Va., John Champe) had two saves in the second half. 

Carter Haid led the Bearcats with six goals and a ground ball while Jordan Billet finished with three goals, two assists and added one ground ball. Brady Beard went 10-of-18 at the faceoff X and added five ground balls and one caused turnover. RJ Kenna had four ground balls and two caused turnovers and AJ Bricker had an assist, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Garrett Ritts got the win in goal with 14 saves.

Saint Vincent scored five-straight goals in the first quarter. Clark and Jones would each had a goal in the second. The Bearcats led 9-2 at the break. Frazer and Jones went back-to-back to start the third and cut Saint Vincent's lead to five, 9-4, before Tyler Harpst and Billet scored the last two of the quarter and carried an 11-4 lead into the fourth. Saint Vincent opened the fourt with four-straight scores before Sentz's goal with four minutes left in regulation. 

Saint Vincent edged Westminster 41-38 in shots and finished with a 25-21 advantage in shots on goal. Westminster went 18-of-20 on its clear attempts while Saint Vincent went 28-of-31. 

Westminster will travel to Greenville, Pa. Saturday to take on Thiel College. The opening faceoff from Alumni Stadium at Stoeber Field is scheduled for 3 p.m.
