Titans fall on road

ARLINGTON, Va.--The Westminster College men's lacrosse team suffered a 17-8 loss at Marymount University Saturday afternoon at Long Bridge Park in Arlington County. 

Marymount improved to 2-5 while Westminster fell to 3-3. 

Sophomore attack Brady Page (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) led Westminster with three points on one goal and a pair of assists while junior midfielder Gavin Jones (Henrico, Va., Douglas S. Freeman) finished with two goals. Senior attack Payton Waight (Ithaca, N.Y., Ithaca) totaled two points on one goal and one assist while junior midfielder Jonas Clark (Montgomery Village, Md., Watkins Mill) and freshman attack Nathan Covey (Sarver, Pa., Freeport) each had a goal. It was the first of Covey's collegiate career. Freshman midfielder Grady Tierney (Clear Lake Shores, Texas, Houston Christian) had one assist and senior midfielder Jimmy Sentz (Catonsville, Md., Loyola Blakefield) had a goal and added five ground balls. 

Junior long-stick midfielder Brody McGuinness (Heber City, Utah, Wasatch) scored a goal, had one caused turnover and a registered a career-high seven ground balls. Senior faceoff Colin O'Malley (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) went 10-of-20 at the faceoff X and added a caused turnover and four ground balls. Sophomore short-stick midfielder Jahiem Hawkins (Huntington Station, N.Y., Huntington) finished with three ground balls and added a caused turnover while sophomore short-stick defensive midfielder Asher Silberling (Redondo Beach, Calif., Redondo Union) posted one ground ball and a pair of caused turnovers. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Jorden Tate (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) finished with nine saves. 

Bryan Maguire paced Marymount with four goals and three assists. Cameron Glass finished 12-20 on faceoffs and added one assist while collecting nine ground balls. Jacob Brooks earned the win in goal for Marymount, stopping 16 shots. 

The Titans held a 5-4 lead at the end of the first. Jones scored back-to-back goals to go up by two, 5-3, with under eight minutes left in the period before Santino Rossitto's man-up goal with under five to go cut the lead to one. The teams traded scores in the second, and Covey's goal with just over two minutes left in the half gave Westminster a 7-6 lead going into the break. Marymount opened the third with four-straight goals before Waight's unassisted score with under eight to go in the quarter trimmed the lead to 10-8. Ciaran Connolly's goal with under seven to go stretched the lead to three, 11-8. The Saints registered back-to-back man-up goals to get the fourth underway and outscored the Titans 6-0 in the final 15 minutes. 

Westminster finished with a 39-33 advantage in shots while Marymount had a 26-24 edge in shots on goal. Westminster was 16-for-20 on clears and went 0-5 on extra-man opportunities. Marymount was 4-of-6. 

Westminster will travel to Tiffin, Ohio Wednesday to take on Heidelberg University. The opening faceoff from Hoernemann Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
