Waight, Jones each score 4 in win at Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio--Westminster College senior attack Payton Waight (Ithaca, N.Y., Ithaca) and junior midfielder Gavin Jones (Henrico, Va., Douglas S. Freeman) combined to score eight goals and 11 points in Wednesday night's 17-6 victory over Heidelberg Univeresity at Hoernemann Stadium. 

Westminster improved to 4-3 overall while Heidelberg fell to 3-5. 

Waight finished with a season-high four goals and added two assists, two ground balls and a caused turnover. Jones totaled four goals, one assist and a ground ball. Junior midfielder Jonas Clark (Montgomery Village, Md., Watkins Mill) had the first three-goal game of his career. He added two ground balls and a caused turnover. Sophomore midfielder Brady Page (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) had a goal and two assists while senior midfielder Jimmy Sentz (Catonsville, Md., Loyola Blakefield) finished with a goal, an assist and two ground balls. Freshman attack Layne Howe's (Lexington Park, Md., Great Mills) scored with under three minutes remaining in regulation. It was the first goal of his career. freshman attack William Albrecht (Wexford, Pa., Pine-Richland) registered the first assist of his career on Howes' goal. 

Junior faceoff Colin O'Malley (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) won 12 of 18 faceoffs and added seven ground balls and two caused turnovers. It was the first time in his career O'Malley scored two goals in a game. Junior long-stick midfielder Brody McGuinness (Heber City, Utah, Wasatch) finished with a career-high 10 ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Sophomore defender Shawn Wooles (Hampton, N.H., Winnacunnet) had two caused turnovers and a ground ball. 

Sophomore Jorden Tate (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) made three saves and didn't allow a goal in the first half. He improved to 3-2. Senior Bradley Green (Landisville, Pa., Hempfield) and sophomore Brendan Siwik (Aldie, Va., John Champe) split the second half in goal, with Green stopping four shots and Siwik stopping two. 

Eight different players scored goals for Westminster. Twelve scored at least one point in the game. Wednesday was Westminster's first game with eight different goal scorers since a 19-6 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win at Bethany College on April 22, 2023. 

Tyler Alexander had two goals and an assist for Heidelberg. 

Up 2-0 at the conclusion of the first quarter, Westminster scored six-straight goals in the second to take an 8-0 lead into halftime. Jones had three goals and an assist in the first half. Waight scored two first half goals and added two assists. Five different players scored goals for Westminster in the third quarter, helping the Titans carry a 13-3 advantage into the fourth. Jones, O'Malley and Howe closed out the fourth quarter scoring.

Westminster finished with a 42-31 advantage in shots and had 30 shots on goal to Heidelberg's 15. The Titans were successful on 20 of their 23 clears and forced the Student Princes into 24 turnovers. 

On Saturday Westminster will host Mount St. Joseph University. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the UPMC Sports Complex.
