Titans suffer Friday home loss

Rascona passes Braddock on all-time assists chart

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's lacrosse team was dealt a 14-6 loss by visiting Davis & Elkins College Friday evening at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

D&E improved to 7-0 this season. The Senators are one of nine undefeated teams in NCAA Division II this season. Westminster fell to 1-4. 

Senior midfielder Nina Rascona (Somerset, Pa., Somerset) broke the program's all-time record for assists Friday with 37. Head coach Bria Braddock previously held the school record with 36 assists (2017-20).

Rascona paced Westminster with two goals and two assists. She added four ground balls, a career-high five caused turnovers and eight draw controls. Sophomore midfielder Emma Brazier (Northport, N.Y., Northport) finished with three goals, two ground balls, a caused turnover and a draw control. Freshman attack Morgan Clark (Bridgeville, Pa., South Fayette) gave the Titans a 3-2 lead three minutes into the second quarter with an unassisted goal.  

Junior defender Shea O'Donnell (Hatfield, Pa., Lansdale Catholic) totaled five ground balls and four caused turnovers while sophomore defender Isabella Cespedes (Merrick, N.Y., Sanford H. Calhoun) had five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Senior midfielder Samantha Reed (Zionsville, Pa., Emmaus) finished with three ground balls, one caused turnover and a draw control. 

Junior Jade Hromanik (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler), making her first start of the year, finished with 14 saves and six ground balls. Now with 204 career saves, she is one of two Westminster goalkeepers to reach 200-plus saves (311, Emma Bradley, 2019-22). 

Rylee Anderson led D&E with four goals, six ground balls and three caused turnovers. All four goals came in the second half. Ari Hinton finished with two goals and an assist. She entered Friday's game ranked No. 2 in Division III in points per game (7.20). Ke'ya Stevens scored three goals while Jessica Dwyer added two goals and an assist. Marissa Cuevas made 15 saves in the win. 

Davis & Elkins, leading 5-4 at halftime, fired in seven unanswered goals late in the third and into the fourth, going from a 7-6 lead with under nine to play in the third after Brazier's third goal, to grabbing an eight-goal advantage with 2:43 left in regulation.

Westminster outshot D&E 34-30 while the Senators had a 24-21 edge in shots on goal. Davis & Elkins was successful on 24 of its 26 clears while Westminster finished 25-of-35. The Titans' 23 turnovers Friday were a season high.

Westminster will travel to Buffalo State University Wednesday afternoon. The opening draw at Coyer Field is scheduled for 5 p.m.
