Titans downed at Wooster

Sentz fires in career-high five goals

WOOSTER, Ohio--The Westminster College men's lacrosse team suffered a 17-10 loss at unbeaten College of Wooster Wednesday night. 

Wooster improved to 3-0 while Westminster fell to 1-1. 

Senior midfielder Jimmy Sentz (Catonsville, Md., Loyola Blakefield) led Westminster with a career-high five goals. Junior midfielder Gavin Jones (Henrico, Va., Douglas S. Freeman) added two goals and an assist while junior midfielder Jonas Clark (Montgomery Village, Md., Watkins Mill) had one goal and one assist. Sophomore attack Brady Page (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) and senior midfielder Kellen Frazer (Eugene, Ore., Oak Hill) each scored a goal and senior attack Payton Waight (Ithaca, N.Y., Ithaca) finished with three assists. 

Vinnie DiLeo paced Wooster with three goals and three assists. 

Senior defender Aaron Alderette (Bethel Park, Pa., Bethel Park) and junior long-stick midfielder Brody McGuinness (Heber City, Utah, Wasatch) totaled six ground balls and a caused turnover each. Junior defender David Evangelista (Pittsburgh, Pa., Chartiers Valley) added five ground balls and had a pair of caused turnovers. Senior faceoff Colin O'Malley (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) went 7-of-20 from the faceoff X and added four ground balls.

Senior Bradley Green (Landisville, Pa., Hempfield) and sophomore Brendan Siwik (Aldie, Va., John Champe) each worked one half in goal. Green allowed 10 first half goals and stopped five shots while Siwik surrendered seven goals and made 10 saves. 

Jimmy Fisher won 19-of-29 faceoffs and collected 12 ground balls. for Wooster. Paul Chandler earned the win in goal, stopping eight shots. 

Wooster finished with a 57-27 advantage in shots and had a 32-18 edge in shots on goal. Westminster was 3-of-6 on man-up opportunities.

Jones' unassisted goal with five seconds left in the first quarter cut Wooster's lead to three, 7-4. The Fighting Scots scored three second quarter goals and went into halftime up six, 10-4. Sentz registered back-to-back goals late in the third to trim the lead to two, 12-10 as Westminster outscored Wooster by a 6-3 margin in the quarter and headed into the fourth trailing by three, 13-10. Wooster netted the only four goals of the fourth quarter. 

Westminster hosts Adrian College Tuesday at the UPMC Sports Complex. The game is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m.
