Westminster falls to surging Saint Vincent

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College men's basketball team suffered an 82-69 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) setback to Saint Vincent College Monday night at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.

Saint Vincent, winners of three straight, improved to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the league. Westminster fell to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the PAC. The Titans have dropped four straight. Saint Vincent has now won three of its last four against Westminster.

A pivotal 14-0 run, capped by a Mike Iuzzolino jumper with just over three minutes left in the first, stretched Saint Vincent's lead to 19, 31-12. Dev Ostrowski's three-pointer with 14 seconds left in the half gave the Bearcats a 20-point lead, 37-20, going into the break. The 20 points were a first half low for Westminster this season.

Maxwell Gordon paced Saint Vincent with eight first half points. The Bearcats shot 44.4 percent (16-36) from the field in the opening half. Junior guard Mick Hergenrother (Canfield, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) had seven in the first for Westminster. Twenty-four of Saint Vincent's 36 first half points were scored in the paint.

Jevonte Jones' layup pushed Saint Vincent's lead to 22, 58-36, with just over 12 minutes to play before freshman guard Rylan Dye's (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) layup capped a Westminster 9-0 burst that trimmed the lead to 13, 58-45, with less than 10 remaining. Westminster managed to whittle Saint Vincent's lead down to 10, 73-63, on freshman guard Trevor Siefke's (Lisbon, Ohio, David Anderson) tip-in with 2:31 to go. Powered by a 9-2 spurt, Saint Vincent ran its lead to 17, 82-65, on Jadakis Mack's layup.

Junior guard Jaxon Hendershott (Salem, Ohio, West Branch) had a career-high 20 points for the Titans. He went 7-of-12 from the floor and 5-of-8 from three-point range. Junior guard Drew Weir (Salem, Ohio, Salem) added 15 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Skevos Kouros (Youngstown, Ohio, Campbell) posted six points and had a career-high 10 boards.
