Westminster wins in three against Franciscan

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's volleyball program cruised to a straight-set Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win over visiting Franciscan University Wednesday night at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.

Westminster improved to 18-14 overall and 5-4 in the league. Wednesday was also Faculty Appreciation Night. The team was joined by 10 members of the faculty that truly appreciate the day-to-day lives – and challenges – of our student-athletes and their selflessness, welcoming smiles and encouraging words do so much to strengthen the positive experiences of Westminster's student-athletes, both academically and athletically.

Westminster won the first set 25-17, the second set 25-17 and the third set 25-16. 

The Titans hit .257 in the first set. Junior outside hitter Rachel Brady (Columbus, Pa., Corry) had four first set kills and finished the match hitting .320 with 10 kills. It was her 12th match this season with 10 or more kills. In the second set, senior right side Ava Ferringer (Venus, Pa., Cranberry) finished with four kills and finished with seven while hitting .250. Brady had three kills in the third while junior middle hitter Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) and sophomore right side Orlasia Hunter (Canton, Ohio, Saint Thomas Aquinas) had two kills each in the final set. Rambo finished with four kills and six digs while Hunter totaled four kills and five digs. 

Freshman setter Morgan O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa., Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) had 15 assists and six digs. Junior setter Angie Nardone (Ellwood City, Pa., Lincoln) finished with 11 assists and five digs. Freshman libero Brooke Gecina (Aurora, Ohio, Aurora) had 19 digs while sophomore outside hitter Liv Trent (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood) added five kills and 13 digs.

Brady, Gecina and junior middle hitter Jamie Robertson (Los Angeles, Calif., Palisades Charter) had two service aces each. Robertson also had four digs and three block assists.

Mary Jean Cadman and Gabrielle Disselkamp led Franciscan with eight kills apiece. Mary Smith had 13 assists and eight digs while Sara Moore totaled 15 digs.

Westminster closes out the regular season Saturday against Bethany College. It is also Senior Recognition Day. The match is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m.
