Titans downed at home

Fall to Grove City 70-57

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College men's basketball team suffered a 70-57 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss to Grove City College Tuesday night at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. 

Grove City, winners of four straight, improved to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the league. Westminster has dropped three straight to fall to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in conference action.

Mike Christenson paced Grove City with a season-high 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including hitting 3-of-5 from three-point range. He added six rebounds and four assists. Chase Yarberough added 14 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals while Kyle Randle went 4-of-4 from the floor, finishing with 10 points and four boards off the bench. 

Junior guard Mick Hergenrother (Canfield, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) led Westminster with a season-high 15 points. He added four rebounds and six steals. Junior guard Drew Weir (Salem, Ohio, Salem) finished with 14 points, two rebounds and four steals. Freshman forward Michael Burbach (West Farmington, Ohio, Bristol) had eight points, two rebounds and three steals. 

Westminster was able to cash in on a 27-12 advantage on points off turnovers as Grove City committed a season-high 25. The Wolverines outrebounded the Titans 47-22 and had a commanding 24-9 in bench scoring.

Freshman guard Jibri Carter Jr. (Youngstown, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) drained a three with just over 11 minutes left in the first that tied the game at 18-18. A 6-0 Grove City run that covered the next two-and-a-half minutes pushed the visitor's lead to 24-18. Grove City used a 10-4 run to close the half and went into the break up nine, 35-26. Yarberough had 12 points in the first 20 minutes. Weir led Westminster with nine first half points. 

After a quick 6-0 run to start the second, Grove City's lead swelled to 15, 41-26. Isaac Cherry had four of the Wolverines' six points. Junior guard Jaxon Hendershott's (Salem, Ohio, West Branch) jumper, followed by a Weir three-pointer, trimmed the lead to five, 53-48, with 9:39 remaining. Fueled by an 11-2 run the Wolverines ran their lead to 14, 64-50, with just over five minutes left in regulation.
