Westminster falls at Albion

ALBION, Mich.--The Westminster College men's basketball program lost 84-63 to Albion College Saturday afternoon at Kresge Gymnasium. 

Westminster fell to 2-2 while Albion improved its record to 2-1. 

Freshman guard Michael Burbach (West Farmington, Ohio, Bristol) led Westminster with 12 points, going 5-of-9 from the floor while adding three rebounds and a steal. He went 2-of-3 behind the three-point line. Junior guard Jaxon Hendershott (Salem, Ohio, West Branch) and sophomore guard Skevos Kouros (Youngstown, Ohio, Campbell) both scored 10 points. 

The first half saw six lead changes. Westminster closed out the first half outscoring Albion. 6-2 and went into the break leading 30-25. Hendershott scored the Titans' final six points of the first. Ten of Burbach's 12 were scored in the first half.  

Westminster ran its second half lead to 12, 43-31, five minutes in. Kouros had five early points for the Titans. Albion responded with 15-straight points and, after Nate Childers' three-pointer, went up by three, 46-43, with 12 minutes left in regulation. Michael Umeh had six of Albion's 15 during the run. The Britons did not cede the lead for the remainder of the game. 

Umeh led Albion with 16 points and eight rebounds. He was 6-of-8 from the field and 4-of-7 from the free throw line. Mekhi Wingfield added 13 points and four boards. 

Albion outscored Westminster in the paint 44-32. The Britons' bench outscored the Titans' bench 62-20.

Westminster travels to take on Bethany College to begin Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Wednesday. Tipoff at Joe Kurey Memorial Court inside Hummel Field House is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
