Saint Vincent edges Westminster

Six seniors honored

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's tennis program suffered a 4-3 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss to Saint Vincent College Tuesday afternoon. 

Westminster fell to 6-2 overall and is now 4-2 in league play. The Titans will resume their suspended Oct. 1 match with Franciscan University Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., leading 3-1. The regular season wraps up Saturday at Allegheny College's Tennis Courts at Robertson. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

Six Westminster seniors were honored Tuesday: Natalia Albamonti (Murrysville, Pa., Franklin Regional)Taylor Dlugozima (Volant, Pa., Wilmington)Gia Francisco (Canfield, Ohio, Canfield)Emma Sukal (Pittsburgh, Pa., Baldwin)Ryleigh Valone (Erie, Pa., Villa Maria Academy) and Ally Zervanos (Bridgeville, Pa., Chartiers Valley).

Saint Vincent secured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Francisco and Sukal improved to 6-0 this season at No. 1 with a 6-3 victory over Carolina Walters and Isabella Lane.

Westminster grabbed a 3-1 lead with victories at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Sukal pushed her record to 7-1 with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Lane at No. 2 while Valone claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Rachel Zgurich at No. 3. Sophomore Emma Overlingas (Pittsburgh, Pa., Baldwin) defeated Emily Pierce 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4, improving to 9-0 this season.

Saint Vincent earned decisions at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to tie the match before Walters rallied from a first set loss to prevail 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 win over Francisco at No. 1.
