Westminster splits at Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio--The Westminster College women's volleyball program went 1-1 Saturday at the University of Mount Union, falling to host Mount Union 3-0 before picking up a 3-0 win over Carlow University. 

Westminster is now 13-9 this season.

Westminster begins Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Wednesday when it travels to Thiel College. The match on Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m.

Mount Union 3, Westminster 0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-22)
Sophomore outside hitter Liv Trent (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood) hit .280 with nine kills, 15 digs and a pair of assists. Junior middle hitter Rachel Brady (Columbus, Pa., Corry) added eight kills, one assist and two blocks. Westminster hit .165 against the Purple Raiders. Junior setter Angie Nardone (Ellwood City, Pa., Lincoln) had 14 assists and two digs in the match.

Westminster 3, Carlow 0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-21)
In the first two sets, Westminster maintained a steady lead from the start. In the third, Carlow took a 19-14 lead after a back -and-fourth battle. Westminster scored nine-straight points, with Trent getting four kills to take a 23-19 lead, in the deciding set. 

Senior right side Ava Ferringer (Venus, Pa., Cranberry) and Trent each had eight kills. Ferringer added one assist, a pair of blocks and four digs while Trent added two service aces and 11 digs. Junior middle hitter Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) had six kills, one assist and seven blocks. Brady and sophomore right side Orlasia Hunter (Canton, Ohio, Saint Thomas Aquinas) each had five kills. 

Freshman setter Morgan O'Brien (Pittsburgh, Pa., Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) finished the match with 10 assists and 16 digs while Nardone had seven assists and seven digs.
