Men's soccer drops PAC home opener to Franciscan

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College men's soccer program fell by a 3-1 decision to Franciscan University in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup at the UPMC Sports Complex Friday night. 

Westminster fell to 3-5-3 overall and 0-3 in PAC play. Franciscan, unbeaten in its last five matches, improved to 7-1-3 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference. Friday was the 350th career victory for Franciscan's Brett Ridenour, who is in his fourth year as the head coach of the Barons and his 25th season of coaching at the Division III level. The 350 wins are the eighth-most among active Division III coaches. 

After a scoreless first half, Lucas Crow scored Franciscan's first goal 16 minutes into the second and Ryan Miller scored off a penalty kick in the 61st minute. Freshman forward Santiago Fernandez (Lake City, Fla., Freedom) netted the lone goal for Westminster in the 83rd minute. Aidan Henniger scored the final goal of the match off a Miller corner kick in the 85th minute. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Aaron Snyder (Hatboro, Pa., Upper Moreland) played all 90 minutes and totaled six saves. Franciscan's Aiden Miller made three saves in the win. 

Franciscan outshot Westminster by a 15-8 margin and had a 9-4 shots on goal advantage. Franciscan finished with 10 corner kicks while Westminster had a pair. 

Westminster will host Chatham University on Tuesday, Oct. 8. The match is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
