Six players score in shutout of Thiel

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Six players scored goals for Westminster College in its 7-0 shutout of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Thiel College Wednesday night at the UPMC Sports Complex.

Westminster, winners of three straight and unbeaten in its last eight, improved to 8-5-1 overall and 7-0-1 in the conference. The Titans will travel to Bethany College Saturday before wrapping up the regular season Wednesday, Oct. 30 at home against Washington & Jefferson College. Thiel has dropped night straight matches, falling to 3-13 overall and 0-8 in the PAC. 

The Titans led 5-0 at the half.

Senior forward Brooke Horvath (Murrysville, Pa., Franklin Regional) scored in the eighth minute off an assist by senior forward Lydia Ohm (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Hills). It was Horvath's seventh goal of the season. The assist was Ohm's first this year. Senior forward Allie Augustine (Cortland, Ohio, Lakeview) scored off of senior midfielder Natalie Vilchek's (West Newton, Pa., Yough) assist in the ninth minute before senior midfielder Mackenzie Powell (Harrison City, Pa., Penn-Trafford) scored off an assist from junior midfielder Emma Maloberti (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) in the 12th minute. The goal was Augustine's third this year. Ohm scored in the 18th minute, her seventh of the year, while senior defender Erin Fosgreen (Jackson, N.J., Jackson Memorial) netted her first goal of the year in the 29th minute. 

In the 73rd minute, Vilcheck scored her second of the year while Powell scored her second of the match off junior defender Alena Taladay's (Ford City, Pa., Armstrong) assist in the 79th minute. The goals were Powell's first this season.

Junior Morgan Murphy (Yardley, Pa., Villa Joseph Marie), sophomore Emily Codere (Shelton, Conn., Shelton) and senior Lauren Gross (Lewisburg, Pa., Lewisburg) combined for the shutout. Murphy had a save in 14 minutes. Codere played 31 minutes while Gross was in net for 45. 

Wednesday was the Titans' third shutout of the year. 

Westminster outshot Thiel 36-2 and had an 18-1 edge in shots on goal. Westminster outcornered Thiel 6-0.
