Westminster wins in straight sets

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's volleyball program won in straight sets over Geneva College Saturday night in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match on Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. 

Westminster improved its record to 16-10 overall and 3-1 in PAC play. Geneva fell to 9-13 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Senior right side Ava Ferringer (Venus, Pa., Cranberry) hit .227 with eight kills, an assist and three digs. Juniors outside hitter Rachel Brady (Columbus, Pa., Corry) and middle hitter Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) each had seven kills. Brady chipped in defensively with eight digs while Rambo added a pair of assists and 1.5 blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Liv Trent (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood) had five kills, 23 digs, two assists and a service ace. Junior setter Angie Nardone (Ellwood City, Pa., Lincoln) finished with a 14-assist, 10-dig double-double, her 11th this season. She added five kills and two service aces. 

Megan Veon led Geneva with 14 kills, 17 digs, two assists and 2.0 blocks. Emily Nelson added 12 kills and 18 digs. 

Westminster never trailed in the opening set, scoring the first four points in the 25-21 set win. Brady and Rambo had three kills apiece in the first. The second set featured four ties before the Titans scored the 25-19 set win. Ferringer and sophomore right side Orlasia Hunter (Canton, Ohio) had three kills each in the second. In the third, Geneva rattled off five-straight points to go up 6-1. Six ties and three lead changes later, Westminster held on for the 27-25 win.

Westminster continues PAC play Wednesday when they host Washington & Jefferson College. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
