Westminster rolls in Senior Day shutout of Saint Vincent

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.-- The Westminster College men's soccer program celebrated its Senior Recognition Day with a 2-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) shutout of Saint Vincent College Friday evening at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Westminster improved to 5-7-2 overall and 2-5 in the conference. Saint Vincent fell to 2-8-6 overall and 1-5-1 in PAC play. 

Prior to Friday's match, Westminster recognized the nine players of its Class of 2024: forward Lucas Toohey (Mount Pleasant, Pa., Mount Pleasant), forward Brady Robison (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory), midfielder Brendan Callahan (Bensalem, Pa., Bensalem), forward Connor Schmidt (Evans City, Pa., Seneca Valley), midfielder Mason Baldwin (Seven Fields, Pa., Seneca Valley), defender Joshua Glaser (Indiana, Pa., Indiana), forward Dylan Weiss (South Park, Pa., South Park), defender Peyton Pauline (South Park, Pa., South Park) and midfielder Brayan Ramonez (Rochester, Pa., Central Valley)

Scoreless at halftime, Baldwin netted the eventual game-winner five minutes into the second half off an assist from Schmidt. It was the first game-winning goal of his career. The assist was Schmidt's fifth this season. In the 73rd minute, sophomore midfielder Max Letchworth (Lugoff, S.C., Lugoff-Elgin) scored an unassisted goal, the first of his career. 

Sophomore Aaron Snyder (Hatboro, Pa., Upper Moreland) recorded his third shutout this year, totaling five saves in the victory. 

Saint Vincent outshot Westminster 14-9 while Westminster had a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. Westminster had five corners to Saint Vincent's four. There were a combined 25 fouls (14-Westminster, 11-Saint Vincent) and both teams had one player receive a yellow card.

Westminster will host Thiel College Wednesday. The matchup is scheduled to get underway at 8:30 p.m.
