Horvath nets sixth goal of season in win at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa.--Senior forward Brooke Horvath (Murrysville, Pa., Franklin Regional) fired in her team-leading sixth goal of the year in Westminster College's 2-1 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Allegheny College on the Robertson Blue Turf Tuesday night. 

Westminster, unbeaten in its last six matches, improved to 6-5-1 overall and 5-0-1 in league play. Allegheny fell to 7-6-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the PAC. Tuesday was Westminster's third-straight win in the series.

Horvath scored in the 20th minute off an assist from senior forward Allie Augustine (Cortland, Ohio, Lakeview). It was Augustine's seventh career assist on a Horvath goal. 

Up 1-0 at the half, sophomore midfielder Jocelyn Gratchic (Connellsville, Pa., Connellsville) extended the Titans' lead to 2-0, scoring off an Augustine assist in the 52nd minute. Tuesday was Augustine's first match with two assists since her collegiate debut, a 3-0 shutout win over John Carroll University on Sept. 1, 2021. The goal was Gratchic's fourth this season. 

Allegheny's Emma Miller scored her 17th goal of the season off a Katherine Surdykowski assist in the 73rd minute. 

Junior Morgan Murphy (Yardley, Pa., Villa Joseph Marie) stopped eight shots for Westminster. 

Allegheny outshot Westminster 19-15, claiming a 13-6 advantage in first half shots, and finished with nine shots on goal to the visitor's eight. The Titans had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

Westminster returns to New Wilmington Friday for its Senior Recognition Day. The Titans will host Saint Vincent College at 5 p.m. at the UPMC Sports Complex.
