Westminster falls at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa.--The Westminster College men's soccer program dropped a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match to Allegheny College 5-2 Tuesday evening at the Robertson Athletic Complex.

Westminster fell to 4-7-2 overall and 1-5 in PAC play. Allegheny improved to 3-9-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the conference. 

Senior forward Connor Schmidt (Evans City, Pa., Seneca Valley) scored the opening goal unassisted nine minutes in. Cliff Weaver tied things up in the 21st minute off a Brady Napoleon assist. Will Gruca scored off an assist from Micah Khembo with 11 minutes left in the first half to give Allegheny a 2-1 lead.

Napoleon scored off a Weaver assist nine minutes into the second half. Schmidt scored his second of the day in the 67th minute mark off an assist from sophomore midfielder Orrin Milcic (Butler, Pa., Knoch). Napoleon scored two more times, in the 72nd minute and five minutes later, to record a hat trick. Jacob Kubik-Pauw assisted both of Napoleon's second half goals. 

Schmidt registered his first multi-goal match of the season. The senior has 14 points this season on five goals and four assists.

Sophomore goalkeeper Aaron Snyder (Hatboro, Pa., Upper Moreland) finished with seven saves off 12 shots faced. Cadan Bennett got the win in net for Allegheny with five saves off seven shots faced. 

Allegheny outshot Westminster 22-15 and had the advantage in shots on goal (12-7). Allegheny had eight corners to Westminster's four. Westminster had 12 fouls, Allegheny had four and both teams had two players dealt yellow cards.

Westminster will host Saint Vincent College Friday at the UPMC Sports Complex. The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Nine Westminster seniors will be recognized before the match.
