VIENNA, Ohio--Westminster College freshman Kaitlyn Hoover (New Wilmington, Pa., Wilmington) and sophomore Katie Rose Rankin (Sewickley, Pa., North Allegheny) currently sit at No. 1 and No. 2 after Monday's opening round of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Women's Golf Championships. Westminster, winners of six-straight PAC titles, leads the nine-team field going into Tuesday's second round.

The PAC's 36-hole fall event is once again being hosted by the Avalon Golf & Country Club in Warren, Ohio Monday and Tuesday. The women are playing two rounds at Avalon at Squaw Creek in Vienna.

Westminster tops the field with a team score of 338. Washington & Jefferson College is four strokes back (342).

Hoover fired a seven-over 80 while Rankin shot an eight-over 81. Junior Alyssa Rapp (Poland, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) is 11th after carding an 88 and sophomore Mya Mrkonja (Monaca, Pa., Central Valley) is tied with Allegheny College's Josephine Corey for 12th place with an 89. Freshman Ava Liburdi (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) is 20th (94) in the 45-player field.

Liburdi will get things going Tuesday at 11:50 a.m.

This year's PAC Championships features a 72-hole stroke play event, beginning with 36 holes played this fall and another 36 holes played Friday-Saturday, April 25-26 at Mill Creek Metroparks and the Mill Creek Golf Course in Boardman, Ohio. The women will play two rounds on the North Course in April.

The combined 72-hole team totals determine PAC team champions and winners of the league's automatic-qualifying bids to the NCAA Division III Championships.
