Westminster dealt 4-2 loss at Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa.--The Westminster College men's soccer program suffered a 4-2 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) setback against Grove City College Friday night at Don Lyle Field. 

Westminster fell to 4-6-2 overall and 1-4 in conference play. Grove City improved to 7-2-2 overall and 4-1 in the PAC. 

Grove City jumped out in front early. Jake Kimmich scored in the third minute and Noah Gray scored off a Daniel Sharp assist to double the lead in the 28th minute. Freshman forward Santiago Fernandez (Lake City, Fla., Freedom) answered in the 40th minute, scoring from 23 yards out off a Wolverine turnover deep in their own side of the field. It with his fourth goal of the year. Thomas Camden scored in the 43rd minute and sent Grove City into the break up 3-1. 

Grove City finished the opening half outshooting Westminster 12-5 and had a 7-4 edge in shots on goal. 

Senior forward Lucas Toohey (Mount Pleasant, Pa., Mount Pleasant) cut into the deficit with a goal in the 59th minute. It was his fourth this season. In the 72nd minute, Ryan Merrick scored off a Camden assist to push the Wolverines' lead to 4-2.

Grove City outshot Westminster 18-9 and finished with a 12-7 advantage in shots on goal. The Wolverines had eight corners to the Titans' six. 

Sophomore Aaron Snyder (Hatboro, Pa., Upper Moreland) registered a career-high eight saves. 

A total of 19 fouls were called (14-Grove City, 5-Westminster) and three yellow cards were issued (2-Westminster, 1-Grove City). Seventeen men saw action for Westminster, while Snyder, senior defender Peyton Pauline (South Park, Pa., South Park) and sophomore midfielders Orrin Milcic (Butler, Pa., Knoch) and Rosh Lemuel Talla Defo (Parkville, Md., Loch Raven) played all 90 minutes.

On Tuesday, Westminster will travel to Allegheny College for a 4 p.m. match at the Robertson Athletic Complex before returning to New Wilmington next Friday for Senior Recognition Day. At 7:30 p.m. the Titans will host Saint Vincent College at the UPMC Sports Complex.
