Westminster wins twice at Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa.--The Westminster College women's volleyball team picked up a pair of victories Friday night at Thiel's Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium.

Westminster opened with a straight-set win over Carlow before winning in four against Thiel in the nightcap. 

Westminster improved to 10-6 with Friday's wins. Nine of the Titans' 10 victories this season have been sweeps. They combined for three last season. Thiel fell to 2-12.

The Titans won 25-18, 28-26 and 25-17 against Carlow before defeating Thiel 25-21, 22-25, 25-15 and 25-14.

Against Carlow, senior Lauren Lampus (Sarver, Pa., Freeport) hit .267 and matched her season high with 11 kills. She added nine digs. Senior Saylee Grinnen (Wampum, Pa., Ellwood City) had six kills and a career-high nine blocks and junior Ava Ferringer (Venus, Pa., Cranberry) chipped in with six kills, a season-high six blocks and three digs. Sophomore Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) hit .714 with five kills and no errors on seven attacks.

Senior Malia Duffy (Allison Park, Pa., North Allegheny) posted 27 digs. It was the fourth match this season she racked up 20-plus digs. Sophomore Angie Nardone (Ellwood City, Pa., Ellwood City) and senior Reanna Daniels (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) finished with 17 assists each. Nardone added nine digs. 

Lampus finished with a 13-kill, 15-dig double-double and added three blocks against Thiel. The 13 kills are a season high. Ferringer and sophomore Rachel Brady (Columbus, Pa., Corry) had 10 kills apiece, while Brady tied her season high with 13 digs and added three blocks and two service aces. Rambo posted eight kills and four blocks.

Duffy totaled 18 digs while senior Claire Tobin (Battlecreek, Mich., Lakeview) finished with 11. Nardone and Daniels eac posted 16 assists. Nardone added 15 digs and a pair of service aces.


Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play begins Wednesday, Oct. 4 at Franciscan. The match is scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m.
