Westminster pulls off sweep against Geneva

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's volleyball earned a straight-set victory over Geneva College Wednesday night at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.

Westminster snapped a five-game losing streak and improved to 8-6 with the win. Geneva fell to 6-6. 

The Titans won by set scores of 25-19, 25-20 and 25-12. 

Westminster was firing on all cylinders from the start, hitting .261 as a team. Four players had at least five kills, with junior Ava Ferringer (Venus, Pa., Cranberry) and sophomore Rachel Brady (Columbus, Pa., Corry) leading the way with eight apiece. Ferringer hit .261 while Brady hit .241 and added three blocks. 

Sophomore Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) hit .545 and finished with seven kills and six blocks. Senior Saylee Grinnen (Wampum, Pa., Ellwood City) hit .444 with five kills and a season-high eight digs.

Sophomore Angie Nardone (Ellwood City, Pa., Ellwood City) had 18 assists and nine digs. Senior Reanna Daniels (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) added 10 assists and six digs. 

Senior Malia Duffy (Allison Park, Pa., North Allegheny) finished with 14 digs. Senior Claire Tobin (Battlecreek, Mich., Lakeview) added seven digs. 

Megan Veon led Geneva with eight kills and a .300 hitting percentage. She added three digs and a solo block.

Friday, Westminster is scheduled to compete in a pair of matches at Thiel's Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium. The Titans will face Carlow at 6 p.m. and Thiel at 8 p.m. Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play begins Wednesday, Oct. 4 at Franciscan.
