Westminster wins PAC home opener

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's soccer team posted a 3-1 victory in its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) home opener against Allegheny College Saturday afternoon at the UPMC Sports Complex.

In the first half, freshman Chloe LaRosa (Tyrone, Pa., Tyrone) scored in the third minute off an assist from junior Brooke Horvath (Murrysville, Pa., Franklin Regional). LaRosa has scored the first goal in six of Westminster's eight matches. It was her 13th goal this season. The assist was Horvath's seventh of the season. 

Less than two minutes later, junior Allie Augustine (Cortland, Ohio, Lakeview) scored an unassisted goal to push Westminster's lead to 2-0.

Allegheny's Casey Bender scored the lone goal for the Gators in the 52nd minute. 

Horvath netted a goal in the 69th minute off of Augustine's second assist of the day.

Sophomore Morgan Murphy (Yardley, Pa., Villa Joseph Marie) tallied three saves for Westminster. Kari May made five saves for Allegheny. 

Westminster outshot Allegheny 14-5 and had more shots on goal (8-4). Both teams had four corner kicks. 

Westminster returns to the UPMC Sports Complex Wednesday against Grove City College. The match is scheduled to get underway at 7:30 p.m.
