Westminster men top Marymount

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College men's lacrosse team earned a 19-13 victory over Marymount University Saturday afternoon at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Westminster, winners of three of its last four, is now 3-4 this season. Marymount fell to 3-5. 


Senior attack Ryan Greer (Cranberry Township, Pa. | Seneca Valley) led the Titans with four goals and three assists. He added two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Senior attack Nick Hubner (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Plum) finished with four goals, two assists, a ground ball and two caused turnovers. 

Sophomore midfielder Gavin Jones (Henrico, Va. | Douglas S. Freeman) totaled three goals, two assists and four ground balls. Senior midfielder Hamish Mathwin (Marion, Australia | Westminster School) had three goals, one assist and four ground balls. Freshman attack Brady Page (Cranberry Township, Pa. | Seneca Valley) finished with three goals, an assist and a pair of ground balls. 

Sophomore midfielder Jonas Clark (Montgomery Village, Md. | Watkins Mill) had a three-point day after posting one goal and a pair of assists. Senior midfielder Boyd Foster (Lincoln, R.I. | Lincoln) added one goal and one assist. 

Sophomore defender Brody McGuinness (Heber City, Utah | Wasatch) and junior faceoff Colin O'Malley (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) each had six ground balls. McGuinness and senior defender Mike Roman (Norristown, Pa. | Germantown Academy) both caused three turnovers. O'Malley went 11-of-14 at the faceoff X. Junior Dino Mario D'Alesio II (Youngstown, Ohio, Cardinal Mooney) won 12 faceoffs Saturday. 

Freshman goalkeeper Brendan Siwik (Aldie, Va., John Champe) tied his season high with 14 saves. 

Gavin Taylorson paced Marymount with four goals. 

Hubner delivered three first period goals while Greer finished with three assists to give Westminster a 6-1 lead heading into the second. Jones, Greer and Foster all had second period goals helping Westminster carry a 9-3 lead into halftime. Jones had a terrific third period, finishing with three goals and an assist as the Titans led 15-6 heading into the fourth. Page and Hubner each had a pair of goals in the fourth, while freshman defensive midfielder Jahiem Hawkins (Huntington Station, N.Y. | Huntington) assisted on a a pair of scores in the period. 

Westminster outshot Marymount 60-36 and had a 37-27 edge in shots on goal. The Titans finished 4-of-8 on man-up opportunities and held a 38-27 advantage in ground balls. Westminster currently leads the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) in man-up goals per game (18, 2.57/g) and man-up scoring percentage (.545, 18-33). 

Westminster hosts Heidelberg University Wednesday. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
