Titans fall at Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio--The Westminster College men's lacrosse team dropped a 17-6 decision at Ohio Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon.

Ohio Wesleyan improved to 1-1 with the victory Saturday. Westminster fell to 0-2. 

Senior midfielder Hamish Mathwin (Marion, Australia | Westminster School) and junior attack Jimmy Sentz (Catonsville, Md. | Loyola Blakefield) had two goals apiece to pace the Titans' offense. Senior midfielder Boyd Foster (Lincoln, R.I. | Lincoln) and sophomore midfielder Jonas Clark (Montgomery Village, Md. | Watkins Mill) each scored a goal, while senior attack Ryan Greer (Cranberry Township, Pa. | Seneca Valley) and junior attack Payton Waight (Ithaca, N.Y. | Ithaca) had one assist each. 

Freshman goalkeeper Brendan Siwik (Aldie, Va. | John Champe) suffered the loss, making a pair of saves in 23:01. Freshman Jorden Tate (Cranberry Township, Pa. | Seneca Valley) stopped eight shots in 36:59. 

Sophomore midfielder Brody McGuinness (Heber City, Utah | Wasatch) had three ground balls for Westminster. Junior Colin O'Malley (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) won 8-of-18 faceoffs. Junior Dino Mario D'Alesio II (Youngstown, Ohio | Cardinal Mooney) won 5-of-9 faceoffs. 

Garrett Smith led the Battling Bishops with two goals and two assists. Brady Hunt added three goals. 

Ohio Wesleyan jumped out to a 5-0 lead with under nine minutes to go in the first period. Clark and Mathwin scored goals in a 67-second span to to pull Westminster back to within three, 5-2, with just over two minutes remaining in the period. The Battling Bishops led 6-2 after one period. 

Ohio Wesleyan outscored Westminster 5-1 in the second to take an 11-3 lead into halftime. 

Sentz bookended the scoring in the third, scoring 13 seconds into the period off of Greer's assist and again with just under 10 minutes remaining to cut the deficit to nine, 14-5. Mathwin netted his team-leading fifth goal of the season, a man-up score, with under 10 minutes to play in the fourth. 

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Westminster 57-27, including a 27-12 edge in shots on goal. 

Westminster committed 27 turnovers, while Ohio Wesleyan finished with 14 turnovers.  

Westminster will travel to Alfred University Wednesday. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
