Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Westminster men outlast Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio--The Westminster College men's basketball team overcame a nine-point halftime deficit to post a 77-74 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory at Franciscan University Saturday night. 

Westminster improved to 14-9 overall and 12-6 in conference play. Franciscan fell to 6-17 overall and 3-15 in the PAC.

Freshman Trey DePietro (Boardman, Ohio | Boardman) led five Westminster players in double figures, finishing with 14 points, six rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. He went 2-of-3 from the field and made 10-of-13 free throw attempts. 

Junior Andrew Clark (New Middletown, Ohio | Springfield Local) had 13 points, five rebounds and three blocks. He was 5-of-9 from the field and 3-of-4 from three-point range. Junior Reese Leone (Beloit, Ohio | West Branch) added 13 points and a pair of assists while senior Justin Bofenkamp (Warren, Ohio | Warren JFK) chipped in with 11 points. Freshman Quincy Jones (Youngstown, Ohio, Chaney) totaled 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting and had a team-high eight rebounds. 

Travis Lien led Franciscan with a game-high 23 points. 

Freshman Jaxon Hendershott (Salem, Ohio | West Branch) knocked down a three-pointer with 6:19 left in the first half to even the score at 25-25. Franciscan outscored Westminster 14-5 over the final six minutes to take a 39-30 lead into the break. 

Leone split a pair of free throws with less than five minutes gone in the second half to cap an 11-2 scoring run and tie the game at 41-41. DePietro hit a pair of free throws with under six minutes to go in regulation to push the Titans' lead eight, 68-60, but Franciscan's Josh Zimmerman keyed an 11-2 run with a jumper with 3:09 to play to give the Barons a 71-70 edge. 

Bofenkamp's jumper with just over a minute remaining put Westminster in front 72-71 and a pair of Leone free throws extended the Titans' lead to 74-71 with 40 seconds left. Lien knocked down his sixth three-pointer of the game with 24 seconds to go to tie the game at 74-74, but Jones' bucket with 18 seconds remaining gave Westminster a 76-74 lead. DePietro split a pair of free throws with five seconds remaining to give Westminster the three-point road win. 

Westminster finished shooting 49.0 percent (24-49) from the floor and went 23-of-33 (69.7%) from the free throw line. The Titans had a 36-33 advantage on the glass and outscored the Barons' bench 24-17. 

Westminster will travel to Pittsburgh Wednesday to take on Chatham University. Tipoff at the Athletic and Fitness Center (AFC) is scheduled for 7 p.m.
