Jones paces four in double figures, Westminster tops Allegheny

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Sophomore Quincy Jones (Youngstown, Ohio, Chaney) led four Westminster College men's basketball players in double figures Wednesday night, helping the Titans secure a 71-56 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Allegheny College at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. 

Westminster, winners of three straight, pushed its record to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the PAC. Allegheny dropped to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in league play. 

Jones finished with a game-high 22 points. He shot 9-of-18 from the floor and finished 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Jones added four rebounds and a pair of assists. Wednesday was Jones' fourth time scoring 20 or more points this season.

Seniors Andrew Clark (New Middletown, Ohio, Springfield Local) and Reese Leone (Beloit, Ohio, West Branch) each scored 14 points. Clark finished 5-of-9 from the field and knocked down 4-of-7 three-point field goal attempts. He added seven rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. Leone added four rebounds and four assists while sophomore Trey DePietro (Boardman, Ohio, Boardman) posted a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double, his third of the season.

Andre Wilder led Allegheny with 20 points and nine rebounds. Luke Barker added 15 points. 

Allegheny went up by 12, 14-2, five minutes into the first half. Barker hit three three-pointers during the run. Westminster responded with a 13-1 spurt to even things at 15-15 with just under 12 to play. Jones had seven of the Titans' 13 points during the run. Trailing by eight (25-17) with 6:42 left in the first half, Westminster closed out the half on a 16-6 run went into the break sporting a 33-31 lead after Jones' floating jump shot with two seconds to go.

With the game tied at 41-41, Westminster scored seven-straight points to go up 48-41 on DePietro's jumper with 13:22 remaining. Allegheny trimmed the lead to three, 50-47, before Westminster used a 12-2 run to extend the lead to 14, 62-48, with just over six minutes remaining. Clark's bucket with 1:28 to go in regulation closed out the scoring. 

Westminster shot 42.2 percent (27-64) from the field and hit a season-eight three-pointers. The Titans finished with a 38-33 edge on the glass and turned 14 Allegheny turnovers into 21 points. 

Westminster will travel to Chatham University Saturday. Tipoff at the Athletics and Fitness Center (AFC) is scheduled for 2 p.m.
