Westminster rolls at Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio--The Westminster College women's basketball team led wire-to-wire in a 67-42 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory at Franciscan University Saturday afternoon. 

Westminster improved to 5-3 in the PAC and 6-4 overall while Franciscan fell to 3-7 overall and 1-6 in the league. 

Senior Mariah Vincent (Franklin, Pa., Kennedy Catholic) and fifth-years Lindsay Bell (Youngstown, Ohio, Ursuline) and Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood) each scored in double figures. Vincent had a season-high 15 points, knocking down 5-of-8 three-point field goal attempts. Bell scored a season-high 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting to go along with eight rebounds while Murrio added 13 points, six rebounds and seven assists. 

Ten players scored for Westminster on Saturday.

Madison Doan finished with a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double for Franciscan. Caroline Reedy added 15 points and five rebounds. 

Westminster shot a season-best 49.2 percent (29-59) from the floor and made 7-of-12 (.583) of its three-point field goal attempts. The Titans' seven made three-pointers were also a season high. Westminster finished with a 47-39 rebounding edge and had a 44-24 advantage in scoring in the paint.

Up 16-4 after one quarter, Westminster outscored Franciscan 22-11 in the second and went into the break leading by 22, 37-15. Bell had 12 points and four rebounds in the first half, going 5-of-6 from the floor. Vincent went 3-of-4 from long range for nine points while Murrio totaled seven points, five rebounds and five assists. Seven Westminster players scored in the opening half. The Titans shot 53.6 percent (15-28) from the field in the first 20 minutes and made 5-of-8 first half three-point field goal tries. 

Vincent drilled a pair of third quarter three-pointers to help Westminster extend its lead to 26, 55-29, going into the fourth. The Titans led by as many as 30, 55-35, late in the third. Freshman Kennedy Arison (Medina, Ohio, Akron Hoban) scored four of her seven points midway through the fourth to help secure the 25-point conference win. 

Westminster will travel to Pitt-Greensburg on Monday. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
